Working at the reserve really allows one to soak up the beauty of mountainous views, get a taste of campesino life, and a chance to feel like part of the community. During my time at the reserve, I helped with conservation projects such as planting trees, weeding in the garden, digging canals...all very physically intensive but very satisfying as well. It is obvious the hardwork and sincere efforts that have been invested in the reserve. I was very touched by the warmth from Milton, the forest guard, and his family. Thanks Alto Choco for not only preserving and protecting a beautiful area but for allowing me to be a part of it.

Dear friends at the Zoobreviven: Many thanks for the opportunity to be part of such a worthwhile effort to conserve part of the magnificent cloud forest ecosystem we know as the Alto Choco Reserve. During my much too brief saty as a volunteer I had the excitement of waking up every morning surronded by views of wonderful cluod forest, hiking to track the collared bears or working on the tree nursey and resforesting a part of the reserve. What an educational experience! Everyday I learned something new and felt the satisfaction of directly contributing to important reserach and efforts to conserve this jewel of a place. I was quite impressed with the staff and associates of the Fundacion Zoobreviven. They are all wonderful, dedicated and hardworking individuals. I'd especially like to thank Marco and Collen for making everything go so nice and smoothlyfor me, from answering my questions before the trip to picking me up at the airport and showing me the ropes so that I felt quite at ease very quickly even though I was in a foreign country. I have many great memories and new and lasting friendships and hope to continue to help and support the Fundacion Zoobreviven in any way that I can. I think they have a good vision and program and wish them the best. Thank you again for an experience of a lifetime. Sincerly, Sonia DiFiore New York, New York, USA.

Working and living at Alto Choco for three weeks in April, 2003, was a wonderful experience. Our group of volunteers came from all over the US and Europe, and we worked on all sorts of projects. I helped set up an environmental education day for the kids from the local school, which was really enjoyable. I also helped weed the botanical garden, did some bear tracking and worked with the other volutneers cleaning tiles to make a roof for the new office. The reserve is absolutely beautiful, and walking back into the forest where the waterfalls are was an absolutely breathtaking experience. The lodgings were comfortable enough, and cooking on the little stove with whatever ingredients were available was always an adventure. We managed to make not only good meals, but also fudge, pancakes and (pan-fried) chocolate chip cookies. My Spanish improved some, my understanding of the issues faced by the cloud forest improved a lot, and all in all I had a fun and interesting time. I'd recommend it!

I had the pleasure of working and living at the alto choco reserve for a little over a month last summer and it was an incredible experience. The area is beautiful and the lodging is really great- getting used to no hot water or electricity was pretty easy. I worked tracking bears, planting trees, clearing trails and various other projects. The people are wonderful and so was my experience.

The three month period I spent on Reserva Alto Chocó turned out to be one of the most meaningful events in my life up to this point. The experiential education I received, the people I met, and the incredible natural beauty that surrounded me all impacted me deeply. The accommodations are very nice and clean and the work is satisfying. In my time there, I participated primarily on a reforestation project, but did some occasional plant and tree collecting as well. If more people could experience the amazing hikes and views, the hard work with the machetes, the satisfaction of learning about the practical and medicinal uses of the plants and trees and the warmth of the people I think great steps to protecting the immaculate beauty of the INTAG region against mining and forestry interests could be made. Cheers on a job well done Fundación Zoobreviven!

Thank you Fundacion Zoobreviven, Alto Choco is a fantastic cloud forest, really beautiful, I hope your work keeps it that way. More people really need to know about the problems in Ecuador with mining companies & illegal logging. I wish you all the best as well with your community work in Apuela & Intag Valley.

I stayed at Alto Choco reserve for one month and enjoyed it immensely. I found the stay very informative, very good value for money and was able to participate in reforestation, bird monitoring/watching, gardening and some light building work. The accommodation is set in the most beautiful area I could have imagined and was very close to pristine primary cloud forest. Thank you very much Fundacion Zoobreviven!
